For the past three years, I have dedicated 100 days each summer (Memorial Day through Labor Day) making undirected photographs with all four of my daughters in the frame. The result is nearly 500 photographs (and counting!) that document our everyday life, complete with laughter and anger, sunshine and rain.
I have titled this collection of images “Ordinary Time”. In the Catholic tradition, “ordinary time” refers to all of the days that aren’t part of the Advent, Christmas, Lent, or Easter seasons (in other words, all of the regular days). In the Episcopal church, we refer to this time as the “growing season”; it is the longest season of the liturgical year and it is time that we spend learning how to practice and hone our faith. Not every day is a celebration, but there are moments of holiness happening all around us, and these are the ones I don’t want to miss.
